So today we flew a drone on Mars. Congratulations NASA and the team of thousands who achieved this wonderful result.However, what about the hobby that was the genesis of much of the innovation, technology and experimentation that ultimately made such a craft a reality?What about all the avid RC hobbyists who, for more than a decade, have been experimenting with multirotors -- long before there was anything available "off the shelf"?How much of what was achieved on Mars today owes its origins to a bunch of keen amateur enthusiasts who were simply driven by a desire to have fun and create something new and different from repurposed electronics and RC model parts?What a shame that politicians and regulators don't stop for a moment and recognize what damage they're doing to our future by regulating this hobby out of existance. They're more than happy to pat themselves on the back for NASA's achievements but, without the hobby doing the groundwork, we would not be flying a copter on Mars today.We should remind everyone of the debt owed to this hobby by those who continue to push the boundaries of exploring our universe."
