  I woke up today to what seems like a pretty heavy case of the malware/trojan/virus infection... I got rid of the more serious ones (no taskman, no regedit, no 'run', etc.) but there are still a few popups and various programs behave nothing like they used to (eg. utorrent seems to get deleted from a certain directory and firefox no longer uses a couple of plugins). I guess it's time for another clean install - it's been well over a year, and I was sort of planning to do one anyway... just not right now. Oh well. At least all my mp3's seem to be intact.

  Well, that doesn't seem to go very well so far. It's been so long since last time, I forgot that the retarded XP installer only makes logical partitions if you already have a primary on the disc, meaning that some parts of the system WILL get onto that existing primary partition. We obviously can't have that, so the way to go is to boot Linux and create another primary partition with fdisk... only the old Red Hat CD I had lying around doesn't handle SATA drives.
  
  So I download a DSL distro, burn it, boot it, and marvel at the fact that even the fdisk it has is some cut back version that's of no use to me. SLAX Frodo seems to do the trick, but now the XP CD won't boot - it does on a different computer, but that's not much of a comfort. I download another XP ISO, tinker with nLite for about half an hour, and then wait for another one until the P3 compiles a bootable image. The actual burning is something of an adventure though, as the non-standard PSU is rated for a whopping 4.2A on the +12V rail, so to keep inside the power budget I had to take out the GF4 and go with integrated video.
  
  That's about as far as I got, the rest I'll leave for tomorrow. Unless I decide to go buy... I mean, steal a Mac, that is.
