I own both, gigged with both and no, Gibson is way better than the Epiphone... tuners on the Epi are cheap and not precise (50 to 100 € to replace them), CTS pots doesn't mean "they're better" and plus they use linear ones on volumes and they work just from 10 to 8.5, after that point on they sound like they're on 2 and then fully closed (40 € to replace them all). Pickups are really bad, they sound cheap, compressed, no dynamics at all, seems more like generic single coils on steroids with woofy bass frequencies, they don't break up as a proper P90 should and they retain that "DI-ish" sound on the background... again, no clarity, no dynamics, they don't interact well even with replaced electronics = bad sound and no control. Another 100 € even if you want to replace them with cheap (but better) Toneriders, more than 200€ if you want good pickups. Bad fret job on the guitar straight out of the box, on mine I had two frets literally popping out from the board so that means at least another 100 € to have a proper set-up... at the end of the game for a 500 € guitar you'd have to spend another 300 to 500 € to get it in decent playing shape and on the used market, with 1100/1200 € you can easily find a Gibson Les Paul Special... in my direct experience, there's no way I would choose the Epi over the Gibson.
