  Rift vs Odyssey:

  "Just had the opportunity to try my friends Odyssey side x side with my brand new rift (a 2nd spared that I just opened today) I used this one because I've always felt that when the Rift was brand new it's brightest and wanted to compare new to new.

  Both PC's 7700K with 1080ti

  I was going to say, with the Samsung price being 499.99 I see no reason to run out and get an Odyssey with the Rift still available for 399.00. The difference would not be worth the extra 100. At the same price I would say if you have a Rift I don't see the Samsung worth the investment to take a loss on the rift...I mean, even if your Rift was in like new condition what could you sell it for 325.00 shipped...if you lucky??

  If you don't have a headset yet...Samsung is pretty good. I agree that Samsung is not as comfortable as the Rift, has a slightly less amount of SDE in the center of the field, has slightly better res in the center of the field but feel the Rift was better from about 60% out to the edges. Brightness comparing new to new I wasn't seeing much of a difference, possibly in favor of the Odyssey.

  It does work really cool with Windows but for me I would only use it with iRacing / PC2.

  P.S. I have no idea how the Vive stacks up to the Rift so for you guys it may be a different story."

  "So I just got it and first impressions are not that great. Thoughts are:

  - Screen door is definitely there, and in my opinion really not that much more improved over the rift. I do run quite high super sampling in the rift which really helps eliminate that.

  - Tracking is questionable. It's hard to tell if it is working consistently since I can't test it with iRacing (more on that later).

  - Headset is really heavy and bulky.

  - Sweet spot at the center is very noticeable. Looking around in the Windows MR home (looking up and in corners) and you notice it right away.

  - Support for this thing is absolutely dreadful. I spent all day bouncing back and fourth with Microsoft support and no one could help me. I've repeatedly asked for a SteamVR preview code so I could test with iRacing and no response. This is worse support than the DK1 for the rift.

  Overall I'm really fighting the urge to box this thing up right now and send it back. If the public SteamVR app isn't released tomorrow as expected that is most likely what will be happening. "
