Team Roberts To Run Honda Engines In 06'?
HRC and Proton in the mix?
by toby hirst
Monday, September 19, 2005

It seems to have gone unnoticed amongst the flood of incidents and other main news from the Japanese Grand Prix, but, there could be a ninth HRC V5 engine on the grid for 2006.

During an interview yesterday, broadcast on the live Eurosport feed in the UK, Grand Prix legend, Kenny Roberts, stated that he is talking to Honda about an engine supply contract for 2006.

''King Kenny'' did not go into any great detail regarding the Japan/UK link-up, but the comments were made nonetheless.

Honda currently run seven machines, and supply Team Moriwaki with engines for their ''Dreamfighter'' project.

Team Roberts/Proton split with Austrian engine supplier KTM several weeks ago, acrimoniously so, leaving rider Shane Byrne without a ride, and the team look likely to miss the Grand Prix events in Malaysia, Qatar, Australia and Turkey.

At present, the team are expected to return for the final race of the year, round 17 of the 2005 MotoGP season, at Valencia.

Shane Byrne has been confirmed as a replacement for Troy Bayliss on the second Camel Honda machine for the races at Sepang and Doha.

First practice for the Marlboro Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix gets underway this Friday.
