Asus & Gigabyte to create a joint-venture - HKEPC - [link]
The world motherboard leaders Asustek and Gigabyte have held a joint board meeting on Aug 8, and announced a great decision at 3:30 (GMT +8) on the same day. When Gigabyte has completed certain of legal procedures, Asus would invest Gigabyte to create a joint-venture. It’s claimed the investment could improve the working efficiency, strengthen the quality, where the most important is to raise the stocks value.
The initial investment to the new firm is US$244 million, and targets on motherboards and graphics cards under the Gigabyte brand. Gigabyte will own 51 per cent of the new firm, the rest by Asus. The new firm is scheduled to in operation on 1 January 2007. Gigabyte would get to pick the 5 of the chairs of the board and 2 of the board's other members. Whereas Asustek would pick 2 of the chairs of the board and 1 of the board's other members.
