Contrary to popular rumors (Dean!) The only Englishman who is in the frame for the ride is James Ellison. Current bookies' favorite is Alex Hoffmann; John Hopkins would like Alex with him as he reckons the German has bike set up skills and good technical knowledge.

Troy Bayliss is out of this GP and probably Malaysia and Qatar as well after breaking his left wrist in a dirt bike accident at home. Tohru Ukawa dusts off his old Camel leathers (2003 vintage) to take the ride at his home track.

Yamaha have revealed that the 2005 M1 is a fly-by-wire machine. ICS (Idle Control System) operates throttle butterflies in left and right pairs independently to alter engine-braking characteristics.

Valentino Rossi had a few hard words for the rumors about his future—or lack of it—in F1. He was reacting to a much publicized interview with Ferrari's Ross Brawn who talked about Rossi testing every month next year. The word 'bullshit' was used, and Valentino suggested that Ferrari might like to talk to him before making any statements. Valentino mocked the idea that he had a plan for what he would do in two years' time, saying he rarely planned more than two months in advance.
